FILIPINO BOXING CHAMP : HATED BY ARGENTINE BOXING FANS

Philippines’ Johnriel Casimero captured the interim IBF junior flyweight title via a 10th-round stoppage of Luis “El Mosquito” Lazarte in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Saturday.

Casimero’s victory, however, wasn’t well accepted in Lazarte’s hometown as angry Argentine fans climbed the ring and attacked Casimero’s team, including Filipino promoter Sammy Gello-ani.

Police officers on the scene failed to prevent the violence even as fans started hurling chairs and bottles into the ring.
The fight itself was marred by dirty tactics from both fighters.
The 40-year-old Lazarte, unable to connect much against the rangy Casimero, threw rabbit punches against the Filipino boxer each time they were caught in a clinch. He also complained to the referee several times while pretending to be hit by low blows and head butts.
These actions prompted the 21-year-old Casimero to retaliate with tricks of his own.The exchange eventually wore Lazarte down. Casimero caught him with a couple of combinations in the 9th round, where the Argentine boxer got knocked down twice.

The Filipino went for the finisher in the following round, prompting Lazarte’s corner to throw in the towel.

Then the riot began. "The three of us suffered bruises," Gello-ani said in Philboxing.com. "But I can take it, we can take it."My friend, Oswaldo Bravo had to pull Casimero pull from the mob and hide him under the ring," Gello-ani narrated. "Bottles and chairs were flying. Lazarte is a member of the trucker's union and the rioters were his friends. I was kicked, Pingping (trainer Cristopher Tepora) was punched. But we are safe now and we are guarded by the local police."

MANNY PACQUIAO : STILL HUMAN...

While Timothy Bradley considers Manny Pacquiao a special fighter, he said the 8-division champion from the Philippines is still human. Bradley said Pacquiao is very good at using angles. He said such capability makes the Filipino superstar a very formidable foe.

“I'm [going to] tell you what makes Manny Pacquiao very, very special. Manny Pacquiao punches from the weirdest angles... shots you don't see, alright,” Bradley said in Fight Hype.

“He's here, he's there, he's underneath here, his body shots, so, and when he feints you, he wants you to cover up… Then as soon as you drop a feint and you put your hands up, he'll run those combinations off of you; then spin around you, side step you, run those combinations off of you,” he narrated.

Bradley has already signed a $5-million contract to face Pacquiao.
He’s going to challenge Pacquiao for the WBO welterweight crown on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
But despite Pacquiao’s stature in the sport, Bradley said he’s not intimidated.

“He’s human. He has two hands and two feet. He’s a man, just like me. He’s not God and I don’t fear him. I won’t fear the crowd and I won’t be intimidated,” said Bradley on RingTV.

Bradley is unbeaten in 29 fights. He won 28 and had 1 no contest. Pacquiao, on the other hand, already has 54 wins, 3 losses and 2 draws.

Bradley believes he was chosen to fight Pacquiao to silence the Filipino boxer’s critics.

Pacquiao has been "less than impressive" in his last two fights -- a unanimous verdict over Shane Mosley and a split-decision victory against Juan Manuel Marquez.

“I think that he finally decided, let's give Bradley a shot and that he will have a live dog in there with him. Freddie knows me and has followed my career. He has heard some good things about me and some bad things about me. Freddie Roach knows its going to be a fight,” Bradley said in a separate report on Boxing Scene.

Blake Griffin's Dunk

Not everyone is so fired up about Blake Griffin's dunk over Oklahoma City big man
Kendrick Perkins on Monday.

The Clippers star went down the lane, elevated, made contact with Perkins and then threw the ball down into the basket, the fingers on his outstretched hand grazing the rim. The play has been the talk of the league.

"I have no appreciation for it at all," said Perkins' Thunder teammate Kevin Durant. "It was a layup, I think. He threw the ball in and got fouled and made his free throw, so it was three points at the end of the day, no matter how it happened, how it went in the basket. I really wasn't impressed. He finished it. So what? We've moved on."

Durant wasn't surprised the play gained so much attention.

"I wasn't surprised because Blake is a poster child," Durant said. "He dunks the ball a lot and makes spectacular plays. If it wasn't against us, maybe I'd say it was a good play, but it was against us, so it was a bad play. I have nothing against Blake, don't get me wrong. But it was against us, so I've got to stick up for my teammate."

Mavericks swingman Vince Carter, who is still capable of putting a big man on a poster at the ripe old age of 35, said Griffin's dunk was "amazing."

"That just shows the true athlete that he is," said Carter, whose Mavs host the Thunder Wednesday night. "I look at and analyze things different. You got to think about the body control and what it takes to really, not only to just do that, but the impact you take from Kendrick Perkins, first of all, is a lot. For you to still have the body control to finish is second to none, because there's not a lot of people that can really do that."

Carter put Durant on the short list of guys in the league right now with that type of body control. Mavs big man Brendan Haywood, the victim of a vicious Durant and-1 dunk during the West finals last season, can testify to that.

But Durant seems to think that dunk doesn't get its due.

"I knew that wasn't going to get attention because we never get attention like that," Durant said. "We're not an L.A. team or a Chicago team or a Miami team. All our plays get thrown under the radar."

Thunder coach Scott Brooks said Perkins isn't worried about being posterized.

"I've been around a lot of defensive-minded players. You're going to get dunked on. There's no way around it," Brooks said. "There's a lot of tremendous athletes in this league, but it doesn't affect him. He's going to come out and do the same thing tonight and guard the basket. That's what he does for us. Let's face it, I'm a fan of the game [and] that was a great play, but we move on."

Pacquiao's next opponent

For all of the potential opponents of Manny Pacquiao "Pacman" this June 2012 will be Timothy Bradley.
Pacquiao did confirmed it to ABS - CBN correspondent Jay Dayupay that Bradley is a strong contender among his potential opponents. The list of boxers lined for Pacquiao's next opponent trimmed down to Cotto and Bradley, after Arum suggested a July 14 bout between Marquez and Peterson.

If Cotto will refuses to relent from asking Pacquiao to fight at 150 pounds, then Bradley whose in junior welterweight, is likely to be Pacquiao's next opponent.

"Kausapin ko pa si Bob Arum kung anong mga napag-usapan. [Ang] suggestion is Bradley pero wala pa namang final decision." - Pacquiao

"I will talk to Bob Arum abut that. His suggestion is Bradley, but there is no final decision yet."
- Pacquiao

Pacquiao, meanwhile, took heed to Catholic Church's request to become a "Bible Ambassador"

"Gusto ko i-encourage ang lahat ng mga tao na magbasa ng bible." - Pacquiao

"I want to encourage all the people to read the bible." - Pacquiao

Pacquiao's decision is being fully supported by his mother Mommy Dionisia, who is a devout Catholic.
